Mrs. King’s passion for teaching began at the age of six. Although her students were only stuffed animals and dolls, she taught them everything she learned in school. As she grew a little older, Mrs. King began teaching friends and neighbors the skills she had learned in gymnastics, diving, and every other activity she enjoyed. She then discovered she had a deep love and understanding of mathematics and used this knowledge to tutor her peers throughout high school and college. Mrs. King knew the path for her future career--teaching.
After earning her degree of Bachelor of Science in Education from East Tennessee State University, Mrs. King taught 8th grade math and language arts in a public school for four years. When she started a family, she decided to stay home with her children. Although she no longer taught in a public-school setting, she never stopped teaching. Mrs. King has been home schooling her children for the past seven years.
In 2012, Mrs. King and her family relocated from Johnson City, Tennessee, to the Hilton Head area of South Carolina. She and her husband, David, have three wonderful children (Seth, Sophie, and Samantha) and two rambunctious and loveable dogs named Moose and Charlie.
Mrs. King is very excited to be joining the Big River Academy family this year as a mathematics instructor. She will be teaching one course of comprehensive math with pre-algebra. She is looking forward to sharing her love of mathematics and getting to know her wonderful students.
