Criminal Justince Instructor
Tom Anderson started his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Statesville, North Carolina Police Department in 1992. Tom served in all levels of supervision and management and was promoted to police chief in December of 2008.
During Tom’s career, he served in several assignments and positions to include patrol, criminal investigations, special operations, and community services, in addition to serving on the SWAT team for over 12 years. One of Tom’s career highlights included a murder case that was later profiled on Investigative Discoveries’ television show “I Almost Got Away with It: The Marshall Brown Case.”
Tom left the Statesville Police Department in July of 2015 for a position with the North Carolina League of Municipalities. Tom is currently serving as the League’s Public Safety Risk Manager for the cities and towns across North Carolina. Tom now travels throughout North Carolina. providing training, resources and consultation to police chiefs and other North Carolina. city leaders in high liability matters. Additionally, Tom teaches Active Shooter Response training to municipal employees across North Carolina. through the League's workshops and conferences.
Tom has a Bachelor and Master’s degree in criminal Justice. Additionally, Tom is a North Carolina Certified training instructor and has taught Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Mitchell Community College for many years.
In addition to Tom’s current teaching duties, Tom also serves as an Adjunct Professor for Gardner-Webb and Kaplan Universities, teaching criminal justice and government classes. Tom was also a board member and past president for the North Carolina Police Executives Association and served as the Law Enforcement Training Coordinator for the association for many years.
Tom is currently a sworn officer with the Troutman North Carolina Police Department and Iredell County Sheriff’s Office assisting with training and other administrative needs.
Tom and his wife Jennifer and daughter Kalyx attend Front Street Church in Statesville, North Carolina. The family is now preparing for Kalyx to attend Liberty University in the Fall of 2017. Tom and Jennifer taught creation science for high school students in Sunday school for several years. Tom continues to study Biblical creation and prophecy.
